LAUNCH

As part of the broader National Youth Week, the City of Darwin holds its own National Youth Week celebration called ‘LAUNCH’, formerly ‘Darwin Youth Week’. This is a program of cultural and recreational activities for young people, by young people. It showcases the talents and interests of young people in Darwin and aims to provide significant opportunities for them to develop and present their ideas through a variety of activities and forums. Boab was approached by the City of Darwin to create an identity for the renamed event.

The key challenge on the project was the quick turnaround from initial brief to final production, which was only two weeks. Within this tight time-frame we facilitated a branding workshop, created an identity, produced a photographic shoot for the posters and designed an event program. By keeping the design and print production simple (a typographic logo and photography in the local area) we were able to compress the time-frame, without compromising the integrity of the branding. The core brand values of LAUNCH are that it is open, accepting, and inclusive. Boab Design created a fluid logo echoing these values. The identity is not limited to appearing only in its core colours and can be used as a framing device for artwork. Most importantly the kids can experiment with it, take ownership of it, and make it their own.
